Wheat was the floor leader, trading higher through most of the session in the face of a mostly lower corn market. Volume was described as light by floor traders who noted that many traders departed early for the long weekend. US weather is mostly favorable for harvest although rains are expected on and off in hard and soft red harvest areas this weekend with soft red areas seeing scattered rain systems into next week. Dryness persists in the same areas of Argentina and Australia that have been reported on over the past two or more weeks although eastern Australia may see some relief by early next week. Some harvest delays were noted for hard red wheat due to thunderstorms overnight, but such problems were said to be scattered and harvest pressure was still noted in KC wheat. Traders were said to be buying wheat and selling corn during the session. This week's Export Sales Report showed strong sales for wheat. Net sales were 668,100 tonnes. Sales of 371,100 tonnes are needed each week to reach the USDA projection. Total sales to date stand at 34.0% of the projected total compared to a 5-year average of 21.3%. The biggest sale this week was 215,500 tonnes to unknown. Both hard and soft red totals were sizable although the totals were weighted to hard red by over 3 to 1.
September Oats closed up 12 at 462. This was 13 3/4 up from the low and 3 off the high.
