Mid-Session Wheat Market Report for 8/8/2008

December wheat opened 27 cents lower on the day at 820 and established an early range of 807 3/4 to 828. The lower open brought selling from locals and commission houses this morning with floor traders indicating that funds were also small sellers. Traders note that the selling in wheat was in sympathy with sharply lower corn and soybeans which were lower this morning due to the sharp rally in the dollar today. Local spreaders who bought wheat against short positions in corn and soybeans recently are also thought to be sellers today. Chicago wheat lost to both corn and KC wheat in the early going. Eastern wheat-growing areas of Australia are expecting beneficial rains over the next 4-5 days. Most of the wheat belt in Argentina is expected to remain dry over the coming week, increasing stress to crops there. Earlier this week the US agricultural attache in Argentina lower the unofficial estimate of wheat production and exports for that country. This is partially in response to poor weather.
